			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Eastside Strongman club was in full swing yesterday at the 2009 Boys Day Out. In case you dont know, the event showcases a bunch of stuff that guys (and girls) typically get excited about &#8211; tanks, motorcross, half naked women, beer, and lifting heavy stuff.</p>
<p>There were three events held through the day. The log lift for reps, arm over arm pull, and the Canterbury Stones (check below for the results and videos). At each event the boys in the club competed against one other but in between, time was spent showing members of the public how to lift the stones, while there was also an ongoing compeition on the rolling thunder for men and women (again the results will be up once they come through) this required each person to see how much they could lift with one hand, using the rolling thunder handle.</p>
<p>We got a great response from the crowd and loads of people had a crack at both the stones and the Rolling Thunder. A stand out was Issac Tamou who managed to overhead press the 60kg log, while weighing only 60kgs himself and not having done any training.</p>
<p>Below are some of the videos of the events that ran throughout the day. There will be some more going up over the next couple of days, so keep an eye out for them here.</p>
<p>The club would also like to thank everyone that came along to compete, participate, watch and support throughout the day. Hopefully this will lead into more of the same down the road.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The first Eastside Strongman Competition was held last Friday night at the CSPC. The turn out of lifters from both in and outside of the gym was awesome. Each weight class had good competition with the talent spread out evenly plus the great contrast of the log vs medley.</p>
<p>The log simply required each lifter to pick up the weight from the floor and lock out over head until given the down call by the ref and man in charge on the night Matt Bailey</p>
<p>The heaviest log lift of the night went to Darren Farrow with 120kgs. The other weight class winners were Akash Sanyal (90kgs lifted) in the -90kg, Graham Cook (11okgs) lifted in the 90-105kg</p>
<p>The medley, a new event to many of the competitors consisted of a farmers walk (varying weights for each class &#8211; 70kg for -90kgs, 90kgs for 90-105kgs, and 110kgs for 105Kgs+ classes respectively). From the 15 meter farmers walk was a single tire flip (approx 250kg tire) then onto an implement carry &#8211; for this competition an old radiator was used which we believe to be about 80kgs</p>
<p>From there was a 96kg Keg lift onto a barrel, followed by the toughest lift of the whole night, the atlas stone (onto barrel also).</p>
<p>A special mention goes to Lance Preddy, who at the completion of the medley walked over and picked up the heaviest Atlas Stone (126kgs) then with plenty of encouragement from the crowd managed to place it on the barrel. A huge effort by the smallest guy in the competition.</p>
<p><strong>Thanks to everyone that came along to watch and compete. The night was a big success and its great to know that the club and the sport has plenty of support behind it. Anyone keen to join up, compete or just have a go should come along to training on either Thursday (5.30pm) or Sunday (10.30am). <p>We will have seperate weight classes and the events will involve an over head log lift, atlas stones and a medley. For more info call Graham Cook on 021332164.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;d like to join up, train, get some coaching advice or just have a go, the boys are training on Sunday mornings at 10.30. Here&#8217;s a short video of the boys training. You can find more footage by clicking on the &#8220;VIDEO&#8221; tab under the header above</p>
